She was born 25 February 1831 in ERIE CO., NY, and died 06 December 1906 in GEORGETOWN TP., OTTAWA CO., MICHIGAN.Notes for JONATHAN BARBER
** (8) SAWYER:According to the 1900 Federal Census, Jonathan "Barbe" and Eliza were married 50 years and Eliza had given birth to 7 children.
Jonathan Barber was called "Barbe" in Michigan.
Jonathan's mother, Polly, and a sister (name unknown), died in the early 1830's. It is believed that his middle name "Barber" was his mother's maiden name and the information on the Barber family is believed to be his mother's family line. There is no way of proving it but Jonathan's parents were married in Washington County, NY and lived in the same township that West Barber lived in. West Barber moved to Mina, Chautauqua County, NY by 1825 and Rodney and Polly Sawyer sold their land in December of 1825 and were residing in Chautauqua Co., NY in 1830. Hiram was born in 1832 and Polly had a brother named Hiram. Sometime after this, Polly and the young daughter died. There are no cemetery records showing their death in Mina Township. They may possibly have moved into Erie County by this time. In 1836 after Polly's death, Rodney married Jane Paxton in Erie County, NY and they had four children.
Hiram Sawyer was in the Civil War and was wounded and discharged early. Rodney died in 1864 and his sons, Jonathan and Hiram, and their half-brother, Levi moved to Michigan. It would seem that at least two of the three sisters stayed in New York.

(ODNEY) (8) SAWYER:Hiram R. Sawyer - the "R" is probably for "Rodney". He was the youngest child of Rodney and Polly (Barber?) Sawyer.
Hiram was in the Civil War and was wounded and discharged in 1864 (CW-Co. I, 116th NY SV).
After the death of his father, Hiram and Jonathan, his brother and Levi Aaron, his half-brother, moved to Blendon Township, Ottawa County, Michigan.
Hiram married Sarah Ann Rich in 1866. Sarah Ann died in April, 1867 and is buried in Blendon Township Cemetery. She was the daughter of ??
In the 1870 Federal Census, Hiram is listed with a wife, Jane, and 4 children who were all from Ohio. They had a son, Myron H., who was born 25 November 1872. Jane died the 11th of July, 1873 in Blendon Township. What happened to her children is no known. They possibly went back to their families in Ohio. It is thought that perhaps Myron H. was raised as Levi and Ellen's son as they have a son, Byron, born in December of 1872 who is not listed in the birth records for Ottawa County but their two sons born before and after Myron are registered.
By 1880 the brothers had gone their separate ways. Jonathan moved to Georgetown Township, Levi and his wife, Ellen (nee Arnold) had moved to Charlton Township, Otsego County, Michigan. Hiram was living with his common-law wife, Mary (nee Stes) Rounds and her sons, Albert and Leeward Rounds and a daughter, Ella P. Sawyer (1 yr. old). They were living in Solon Township, Kent County, Michigan.
In the 1894 Michigan State Census, Hiram, Mary and Leeward were still living in Solon Township and Hiram is buried in Solon Township Cemetery.
